On Tuesday, 22nd March 2022, PLAC held a workshop on improving electoral accountability with support from the United States Strengthening Civic Advocacy and Local Engagement (USAID-SCALE). The workshop was aimed at enhancing the capacity of Civil society organisations (CSOs) to drive political accountability by building on citizens’ capacity and knowledge to call on elected representatives to deliver results in line with campaign promises. The workshop was a platform for CSOs to liaise on how to improve collaborative advocacy and engagement with government institutions to bring about reform. Participants noted that political accountability fosters efficient service delivery, development and a sustainable democracy. Therefore, there is a need to institutionalise political accountability by elected representatives.
