Legislative activities in the National Assembly will resume fully on Wednesday, 13th March, 2019 following its brief adjournment on Tuesday, 12th March in honour of late Hon. Temitope Olatoye “Sugar” who was assassinated during the governorship elections.
Until the lawmaker’s death by political thugs on Saturday, March 9, 2019, Hon. Olatoye represented the Lagelu/Akinleye constituency of Oyo State in the Federal House of Representatives and had chaired the House Committee on Urban Development and Regional Planning. He was also a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Following his death, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara has charged President Buhari to set up a Commission to investigate the killing of Hon Sugar and all those who lost their lives in election related violence. According to the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, 58 persons were reportedly killed during the conduct of the 2019 General Elections that held on February 23 and March 9 respectively.
