Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) with support from the European Union Agents for Citizen Driven Transformation (EU-ACT) and the British Council hosted a Joint Retreat of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs and the House of Representatives Committee on CSOs and Development Partners at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja from Thursday, 21st July to Sunday, 24th July 2022.
The main objectives of the retreat were to enhance sustainable cooperation and coordination between the Legislature and CSOs and to strengthen the capacity of members and staff of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs and House of Representatives Committee on CSOs and Development Partners to ensure the effectiveness of the Committees for collaboration with CSOs on reforms.
The retreat was largely attended by Senators and Honourable members of the respective committees of the National Assembly, their staff, as well as a number of Civil Society Organisations in Lagos.
During the retreat, recommendations were made on actions needed to achieve the re-opening of the Civil Society Liaison Office (CSOLO) in the National Assembly with an agreement subsequently adopted regarding the operationalisation of the office.
