The House of Representatives Committee of Legislative Agenda is set to hold a townhall meeting with stakeholders to receive input for the document that will guide legislative business in the 10th National Assembly. The Legislative Agenda Committee, headed by the Majority Leader of the House, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere was set up by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Tajudeen Abbas in June 2023, immediately after the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.
The Committee has been holding closed-door meetings to discuss the areas of legislative interest for the House in the 10th Assembly. Although the House of Representatives will define the scope and extent of its Legislative Agenda, it has also decided to open the process up, so that it will receive input from critical stakeholders. This decision is in line with the House’s description of itself as ‘The People’s Parliament.’ Prof. Ihonvbere who chairs the Legislative Agenda Committee is a three-time Member of the House and a professor of Government. He has also worked in the development sector, including one of the foremost development foundations, the Ford Foundation.
The 10th House of Representatives will on Monday, July 24, 2023 take input from stakeholders across the gamut of the country before it finalises the Legislative Agenda that it will adopt for implementation.
Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is working with the Committee to realise the Legislative Agenda.
