Increasing the number of women in political positions has been an on-going conversation in Nigeria and indeed, many countries around the world, over several years. With identified barriers which hinder women from gaining entry into the political space, temporary special measures (TSMs) have been devised and implemented in several places to purposefully create opportunities for women in politics. As the name implies, these measures have fixed terms and are not intended to be in place perpetually. This explainer video by PLAC discusses different TSMs and how they work.
