Buhari meets Service Chiefs, as Insecurity resurges

President Buhari presided over a National Security Council meeting  on May 14, where he committed  to securing the lives and properties of Nigerians. Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, the National Security Adviser and some ministers, were present at the meeting. This was the first meeting of the Council following the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the lockdown, it appeared that there fewer cases of insecurity were reported . However, in recent weeks, there has been a spike in attacks in several States across the country.

In Kaduna, about 15 persons were killed by suspected bandits in Gonar Rogo village in Kajuru Local Government of the State on Tuesday, May 12. Following that, 8 persons were reported dead and many others injured in an attack in Makyali village in the same Local Government. In April 2020, 47 persons were reported to have lost their lives in similar attacks in 3 Local Government Area of Katsina State
